Iconic Vogue Journalist Andre Talley Dies At 73!!!!
The world of fashion has lost its beloved Andre Talley. Talley was one of the most influential journalists within the fashion industry. He was also the former editor -at – large of Vogue.
Andre’s Character Was Larger Than Life
Andre Leon Talley stood at six foot seven inches tall. Talley was known for his truthful comments and flamboyant presence. Almost everyone in Hollywood fashion knew Talley. Not to mention, Talley had a very unique style. For six decades Talley brought diversity to the fashion industry. Many would say Talley was the Godfather of fashion. And, I would agree. The impact Talley had was undeniable.
The D.C. native who was raised in North Carolina was born in 1948. At the time segregation was alive and well, especially in the South. However, Tally did not stop the limitations from keeping him from his dream. In his writings “The Chiffon Trenches”, Talley talks about how he would visit the library to look at Vogue magazine. When Talley got older he embarked on a career in fashion. One of his first jobs was the iconic fashion guru Andy Warhol as a receptionist in 1974.
Andre Enjoyed A Phenomenal Career In Fashion
Fast forward, Talley made his dream come true. He worked for fashion icon Anna Wintour, as a fashion editor – at – large, as reported by People. Of course, Talley went on to have great success. We would often see Talley with the editor and chief of Vogue Anna Wintour at the Met Gala. Also, if there were any fashion shows or social events, Talley would be present.
Many fashion beauties could be seen on Talley’s arm. Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Serena & Venus Williams, Whoopi Goldberg, Patti Labelle have all been seen walking the red carpet or social events with Talley. There may never be any other fashion journalist like Talley.
Unfortunately, Talley and Wintour did not part on good terms. In fact, Talley spoke about his relationship with Wintour in his book. We could go on and on about Talley. Here are a few of Talley’s many accomplishments, ( Judge on America’s Next Top Model, Fashion Director, African and American male Creative Director). In addition, Talley was an advisor to former first lady Michele Obama. His release of “The Chiffon Trenches: A Memoir”(2020) was one of his greatest accomplishments.
It is difficult to summarize a life such as Talley’s because he meant so much to people in fashion. Let’s take a look at some of his life in this video below.
