Ye’ Galvanizes African American Support: A Fail?
Young African Americans aren’t taking well to Ye’s social media display. It seems he is trying to galvanize black support. He, however, is only getting that support in part. Older and Elder Blacks are supporting him against his estranged wife Kim Kardashian West. The Millenials on down, especially the women, are uninterested.
There are no absolutes here, only trends. The trends concerning whether or not to support Ye’ are divided to some degree, across generations. Blind race loyalty does not appeal to younger blacks the way it did in the past. Many feel hoodwinked, bamboozled, and run amuck.
Ye’ (Kanye) West Says He Belongs To A Family of Culture Vultures
Kanye who changed his name legally to Ye’ has rapped about black women being abandoned by black men for white women. Yet and still, he did the same thing. Leaving behind his black lady love interests for white women. For at least a decade black women have complained about Kim’s cultural appropriation, facilitated in large part by Ye’ himself. Not the interracial love itself, but the alleged cultural disrespect.
Some say this is the root of the fallout between Ye’ and Jay. Jay as in Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter of course. Some say Beyonce’ is the unofficial bearer of the culture at present, and that allying herself with Kim Kardashian West would be tacit approval of the cultural appropriation that pains black women so deeply.
Ye’ Refers to Himself as “Black” Several Times in Juxtaposition to His White Family
Ye’ sported MAGA hats telling black people “Slavery was a choice” and to stop being racial victims. It seems contradictory that now his every post seems racialized with him as the victim.
“I’m not playing about my black children anyone” Ye’ said in a social media post complaining about his estranged wife. In summation, the post is saying that she is playing the race card with his life.
Ye’ Says, “This is ow They Play With Black men’s Lives”
African Americans usually bond together when the race issue is on the table but Ye’s support is cut down the middle as if he is Moses with his staff at the Red Sea. Black women especially feel betrayed by the “Gold Digger” rapper. Many biracial African Americans are also offended by him addressing his children as black.
“I’m Not Playing About My Black Children Anymore” -Ye’ West
While that may have been an acceptable thing to say a decade ago, biracial African Americans have been asserting their identity as both, not one or the other. Having to choose between being black or white has been the source of much mental anguish and identity crises for biracial African Americans. For the most part, Gen-Z does not subscribe to “the one-drop rule“. Are Ye’s tactics dated?
Although this family has been on the show Family Feud, nobody wins when a family feuds. Ye’ has threatened to “take back the culture” from Kim while also saying “My culture was stolen from me.” Millennial voices are saying he gave it away as a status exchange for white privilege.
