Billboard Music Awards 2022. It was a star-studded night. And, Sean”Diddy” Combs was the host. A lot of the rap community was in attendance.
Mary J. Blige Honored With Icon Award
Billboard Music Awards 2022. There were some surprises during the BBM awards. For one thing, Kanye aka Ye won the top Christian artist award. Mary J Blige was honored with the Icon award.
Drake received the top male rap artist award. Other music entertainers performed such as Travis Scott, Silk Sonic, Maxwell, and Diddy. Of course, Diddy’s performance was unexpected.
Especially since he was hosting the music event. The show aired live from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, as reported by USA Today. Rapper Megan Thee Stallion and Ed Sheeran performed.
Iconic singer-actor Janet Jackson presented the Icon award to Mary J. Blige. It was quite befitting. Janet was honored with the Icon Award in 2018. Both Mary and Janet have impacted music for decades.
So, it was great to see Mary J. Blige be honored in such away. In addition, her speech was very moving. Mary was very appreciative. She thanked Janet.
During her speech, Mary became very emotional. Rightfully so. Her words resonated with many of us. Especially since her story is similar to a lot of ours.
Even Janet talked about Mary’s impact on her personally. Clearly, both women had a mutual admiration for each other. Here is what Mary shared,
“I’ve been on this journey for a long time, one that didn’t always look the way you see me now,” she told the crowd. “One that is filled with a lot of heartache and pain, but God helped me to channel those experiences and emotions in my music.”
