Brittney Griner’s Trial Has Started
Brittney Griner’s Trial Has Started. And, it is not looking good for the basketball player. In fact, if convicted she gets 10 years.
Brittney Should Be Allowed To Come Home
Brittney Griner’s Trial Has Started. The seven-time all-star has been detained in Russia. According to CBS Sports, Griner was allegedly caught carrying marijuana. It was found in her luggage.
As a result, she was taken to jail. All of this took place in February 2022. Russia’s Federal Customs Service at the airport claims she had hashish oil.
To be more exact, alleged Hashish oil was found in vape cartridges containing marijuana. Marijuana is illegal in Russia. Although, in the US Griner probably would be free. However, Russia has very strict laws.
Therefore, Griner had to go to trial. On Friday, July 1, 2022, her trial began. Of course, her wife Glory Johnson is very concerned. Rightfully so. According to Johnson, Griner is being held in a small holding cell.
Surely, that is uncomfortable for the 6ft 9in. WNBA Phoenix Mercury star. Another important thing, Russia is in the middle of a war with Ukraine.
To make matters worst, the US has strained relations with Russia. This could be problematic for Griner. Furthermore, there could be issues with Griner’s alternative lifestyle.
Having said this, why hasn’t our current government gotten involved. Shouldn’t government officials be helping her release? It should not be just her team organization, wife, and other athletes rallying for her.
In other words, why hasn’t the US official done more for her? Her attorney Alexander Boykov, has been reluctant to share news of the trial. But we will keep you posted.
Hopefully, Griner will be able to come home at some point. On another note, athletes must be careful while traveling in foreign countries. Laws in foreign countries are very strict.
We are not suggesting Griner is guilty. Nevertheless, she is in for a fight.
