While Jay-Z enjoyed his vacation, Damon Dash governed the expanding Roc-A-Fella empire. He made decisions without consulting Jay, but this was the natural course of events. In the earlier days of music, a lot of artists, managers, and friends in the business did not sign legal documents. Most relied on hand shakes ,verbal agreements or friendship thinking it would solidify deals made with each other. Great groups like New Edition, TLC, The Temptations, and countless other artists and groups found that not signing a legal binding contract left them all without music rights or royalties.
