Feds: Lil Durk’s Hit On Quando Rondo Goes Awry

Feds: Lil Durk’s Hit On Quando Rondo Goes Awry. The hip-hop community was stunned when news broke that Chicago rapper Lil Durk had allegedly ordered a hit on fellow rapper Quando Rondo. The feud between the two artists had been simmering for months, but no one could have predicted the violent turn it would take. As federal authorities launched an investigation into the incident, details began to emerge about how the plot to take out Quando Rondo went horribly wrong.

The Federal Case Against Lil Durk: Retaliation, And A Botched Ambush

Federal prosecutors have unveiled a chilling murder-for-hire plot involving Grammy-winning rapper Lil Durk.  Durk Banks and his Chicago-based collective, Only the Family (OTF), were alleged to be involved.

According to an FBI affidavit, the 2022 shooting at a Los Angeles gas station was a targeted hit on rapper Quando Rondo. However, it went tragically wrong, resulting in the death of Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a Robinson.

The Roots Of The Feud

The federal indictment traces the violence back to the November 2020 death of King Von. At the time, King Von was a rising star in the OTF camp and a close friend of Lil Durk.

Von was killed during a confrontation outside an Atlanta nightclub involving Quando Rondo’s crew. Following the incident, federal agents allege that Lil Durk made it known he would “pay a bounty” to anyone.

Orchestrating the “Million-Dollar” Hit

Prosecutors claim the retaliation plot was meticulously organized and funded by Lil Durk. Key allegations include:

  • Logistics & Funding: Durk allegedly used OTF-related funds and his own credit card to pay for the travel of five co-conspirators from Chicago to Los Angeles.

  • The Paper Trail: Text messages allegedly show Durk instructing associates, “Don’t book no flights under no names involved wit me.”

  • The Ambush: On August 19, 2022, the group followed Quando Rondo and his cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, through Los Angeles. When they stopped at a gas station near the Beverly Center, gunmen opened fire with multiple weapons, including a machine gun.

While Quando Rondo escaped the hail of at least 18 rounds. His cousin Saviay’a Robinson was struck and killed while standing outside their vehicle.

Arrest And Legal Fallout

Lil Durk was arrested in October 2024 in South Florida. It was reported that he was attempting to flee the country on a private jet to Italy. He currently faces several federal charges, including:

  1. Conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire.

  2. Use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death.

  3. Discharging a firearm and machine gun during a crime of violence.

Lil Durk has pleaded not guilty to all charges. If convicted, he and his five co-defendants are facing serious charges.

Kavon Grant, Deandre Wilson, Keith Jones, David Lindsey, and Asa Houston face a statutory maximum of life in federal prison.

As of January 2026, the federal murder-for-hire trial for Lil Durk may begin. Additionally, his co-defendants are currently scheduled to begin on April 21, 2026.

Initially set for earlier in the year, a Los Angeles federal judge granted a delay following a defense request. The defense claimed they need more time to review a massive amount of discovery evidence.

including over 20,000 pages of reports and hundreds of gigabytes of digital data.

Current Case Status & Developments

  • Next Court Appearance: A status hearing is scheduled for February 9, 2026, during which legal teams will likely discuss pretrial motions and logistics.

  • Motion to Exclude Lyrics: Durk’s legal team recently filed a brief on January 23, 2026, arguing to exclude a dozen of his music videos and songs from being used as evidence. They claim the lyrics are “common, commercial, and widespread” within the genre and would unfairly prejudice a jury.

  • Detention Conditions: Attorneys have also filed motions regarding Durk’s conditions in custody, alleging he has spent months in solitary confinement and has had his commissary and phone privileges severely restricted after being found with an unauthorized Apple Watch.

  • Civil Lawsuits: Outside of the criminal case, Durk is also facing a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the mother of the late rapper FBG Duck, which a judge recently ruled can proceed.
