Drake signed a massive “Lebron-sized” deal with Universal Music Group. And it is estimated to be worth a whopping $400 million dollars.
Drake’s $400 Million Dollar Deal With Universal Music Group Is “Lebron-Sized”
Drake and Universal Music Group signed an expansive deal estimated to be worth $400 million dollars or more.
Though the exact amount of the deal is not currently known, industry insiders call it ‘Lebron sized’.
While the deal was inked in 2021, it was recently confirmed by Sir Lucian Grainge, chairman of the world’s biggest music company, UMG.
During an earnings call, Grainge spoke of the ‘expanded portfolios’ included multiple creative lanes and revenue streams.
Incidentally, he was also speaking of the recent extension/expansion of the deal they have with The Weeknd.
These deals align both artists with Republic Records.
Drake even name drops Grainge on Migo’s Having Our Way, where he raps –
“Billionaires talk to me different when they see my pay stub from Lucian Grainge”
According to Variety, who spoke with multiple outlets, Drake’s multi-faceted deal covers the following –
- recordings
- publishing
- merchandise
- visual media projects
Additionally, the Certified Lover Boy‘s lyrics from his ‘Lemon Pepper Freestyle lyrics which feature Rick Ross, may have foreshadowed this deal.
In one verse, he spits –
“Three-sixty up front, it all comes full circle.”
And another line says –
“My label gotta prove they love me…”
Well, I think they did just that, Drake!

While Drake has been moving over 37 million album project units since 2014, he has also been breaking records.
Remember, he was the first artist ever to surpass 50 billion combined streams on Spotify.
And was crowned the biggest rapper of 2021 with the online music streaming service.
Also, he was named the artist with the most number ones on Billboard’s Hip Hop Chart.
So him inking such a massive deal is not a stretch.
