What Is Blackout Tuesday???

What is Blackout Tuesday. A lot of people are placing black screens on their social media. Will this kind of protest work or not? Will you participate in blackout Tuesday?

Do you think black out Tuesday will work?

What is Blackout Tuesday? What is the purpose of black screens on your social media? By now we have all seen the riots taking place in cities all over the United States. All of this unrest was sparked once again after the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor.

With that said, today I woke up and took a look at my Instagram. To my amazement some of the people I follow has black screens. So, I wanted to know what was going on. Here is what I found out. According to The Verge. The idea is to fill Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with  black squares, freeing up the time usually dedicated to social media for people to educate themselves on the Black Lives Matter movement.

The reason behind this stand on social media is to bring a greater awareness of police brutality. Also, as a show of solidarity people have blackened their screens. In addition, with the screen black the hashtag is to read Blackout Tuesday. However, some people have gotten creative with adding other symbols behind the black screen.

Now whether this is going to work remains to be seen. But anything that we can do to support the movement is important. It appears that the Blackout Tuesday was started by the music community.

On the other hand, there are some people who do not agree with Blackout Tuesday. In fact, some think it will not make an impact. Especially, since people may not be able to keep up with protesting information. No matter what side you are on it is time for a police racial injustice to be stopped. What are your thoughts?
