Viola Davis EGOT Journey Is Complete
Viola Davis EGOT journey is now at a close.
Yep, she did it y’all!
The multi-talented actress has now won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.
Tonight, at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards show she looked absolutely radiant as she accepted the honor.
First, the 57-year-old actress/producer won her first Tony at the 55th Tony Awards show in 2001.
That one was for best-featured actress in the role of Tonya in Broadway’s King Hedley II.
Then in 2010, she picked up another award in the best leading actress category for the role of Rose Maxson in Fences.
2015 saw Viola win her first Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a drama series.
The ABC drama, How to Get Away with Murder saw the actress slay the role of Annalise Keating.
She was the first Black actress to win in this category.
She would go on to pick up her first Academy Award in 2017 in the feature adaptation.
And now, in 2023, she snags a Grammy win on her very first nomination.
This one was quite personal, because it was for best audiobook, narration & storytelling recording for her memoir, Finding Me.
While accepting the award, Davis begins her acceptance speech –
“Oh my God! I wrote this book to honor the 6-year-old Viola, to honor her life, her joy, her trauma, everything.”
Adding to her statement, she exclaimed –
“And it has just been such a journey. I just EGOT!”
She beat out Jamie Foxx, Mel Brooks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Questlove for the award.
Fellow EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson wasted no time congratulating Davis.
Jumping on Twitter, she posted –
“Hold the line!!!!!!! Viola Davis just became EGOT #18!!! Omg @violadavis U are absolutely everything! Congratulations to a living LEGEND. Time to celebrate!!!”
Congratulations, Viola Davis!
