The Roots Picnic is a masterclass in festival curation, born from a powerhouse collaboration between the legendary hip-hop band The Roots and Live Nation Urban. While Questlove and Black Thought drive the creative vision, bringing unique, star-studded collaborative sets to life, Live Nation provides the massive promotional backing and production scale needed to pull off the multi-day event. Together, they have successfully expanded the festival’s footprint while keeping it deeply rooted in celebrating Black culture, hip-hop, and R&B.
The Roots Picnic 2026: A Historic Weekend of Hip-Hop and R&B Royalty
The 18th annual Roots Picnic officially took over Philadelphia’s scenic Belmont Plateau. People from all over the country attended on May 30 and May 31, 2026. Hosted by the legendary Roots crew and Live Nation Urban. The festival delivered two days of iconic headliners. With massive R&B throwbacks and once-in-a-lifetime collaborative sets.
One of the highlights of the event was rapper Jay-Z’s performance. Not to mention, Hove debuted his new hairstyle, as Complex reported. Philadelphia was lit up with music, good food, and fun.
More importantly, the performances were epic. From Jay-Z, Erykah Badu, Brandy, and Monica, their performances were second to none. To top it off, rapper T.I. represented the South very well.

JAŸ-Z & The Roots: Saturday night featured a truly historic reunion as hip-hop mogul JAŸ-Z teamed up with The Roots crew for the first time in 25 years. The electrifying set celebrated the 30th anniversary of his debut album Reasonable Doubt and even featured a massive surprise guest appearance by Philly’s own Meek Mill.

Erykah Badu: The First Lady of Neo-Soul graced the stage on Sunday night, closing out the festival with her signature ethereal vibes and catalog of timeless classics.
