Snoop Dogg Wants A Lawsuit Over Drakeo Dropped

Snoop Dogg Wants A Lawsuit Over Drakeo Dropped. The legal battle between Snoop Dogg’s entertainment company and the family of Drakeo the Ruler began after Drakeo was tragically stabbed backstage during a brawl at the 2021 Once Upon a Time in L.A. music festival. In 2022, Drakeo’s family launched a $20 million wrongful death lawsuit against multiple entities, including festival organizers like Live Nation, claiming that severely inadequate security failed to protect the artists.

Snoop Dogg’s LLC Seeks Dismissal

Snoop Dogg is taking legal steps to distance his entertainment company from the ongoing $20 million lawsuit. As we mentioned earlier, the wrongful death lawsuit stemmed from the tragic 2021 killing of Los Angeles rapper Drakeo the Ruler.

According to court documents, Snoop Dogg’s LLC (SDLLC) filed a motion for summary judgment. He is requesting that a judge dismiss the claims against him. Arguing that the company bears no liability for the security failures that led to the fatal incident.

The Grounds for Dismissal

Darrell Caldwell was fatally stabbed in the neck during a massive backstage brawl. It was at the Once Upon a Time in L.A. festival on December 18, 2021. In 2022, Drakeo’s brother and family members filed a negligence lawsuit against several entities.  Alleging that event organizers provided woefully inadequate security.

The lawsuit targeted heavy hitters like Live Nation. Included in the lawsuit is SDLLC. Allegedly, Snoop’s brand helped orchestrate and promote the event.

Reports suggest that is why Snoop was included in the massive lawsuit.  However, in declarations submitted to the court, Snoop claims his company shouldn’t be held responsible:

  • Strictly a Performer: Snoop Dogg (Calvin Broadus Jr.) specified that his involvement was strictly bound to a $500,000 performance agreement for a one-hour set.

  • No Operational Control: The motion stresses that SDLLC did not manage the venue (Exposition Park), did not hire or supervise security personnel, and possessed no ownership or leasehold interests in the property.

  • No Connection to the Stabbing: Attorneys explicitly noted that no employees, agents, or representatives from Snoop’s team witnessed the altercation, participated in security operations, or had any ties to the unidentified assailants.

Unfortunately, Snoop may not be able to get the dismissal. Especially if Drakeo’s family can prove their case to a court. In the meantime, Snoop doesn’t appear to be going down without a fight.
