Rapper and criminal justice reform advocate Robert “Meek Mill” Williams was briefly detained, handcuffed, and searched by the NYPD. The incident occurred outside a Manhattan nightclub.
Officers received a tip on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, about a man with a firearm. The incident occurred around 4:00 AM outside the Harbor NYC nightclub.
At the time, Meek Mill was leaving a late-night Halloween party. Viral video footage captured the Grammy-nominated artist standing with his hands behind his back.
All while speaking to officers, drawing a crowd of onlookers, and generating immediate social media buzz. According to TMZ, Meek Mill claims he was detained for no reason.
No Weapon Recovered; No Arrests Made
According to a spokesperson for the NYPD, officers were dispatched to the location. It was in response to a report of a male in possession of a firearm inside a vehicle.
Authorities stated that they stopped a car matching the description and license plate number provided by a witness. Meek Mill, along with two other occupants of the vehicle, was detained and handcuffed.
However, the cops did not find any firearm. Eventually, Meek and the other two men were let go. Consequently, all three individuals, including Meek Mill, were released without being charged or formally arrested.
Despite the release, the rapper expressed outrage and embarrassment over the public detention. Meek has become a leading advocate for criminal justice reform.
So, being in a situation that could have led to his arrest was disturbing. As we all know, Meek is part of the REFORM Alliance with other notable men.
Here is what Meek shared about the incident on social media,
“They just pulled me out the car and cuffed me in front of the whole club, embarrassed the st out of me in nyc!”** he wrote. “I’m not scared to go outside without a gun … they had guns in my face for no reason smh I thought it was a prank.”
In a follow-up post, the rapper expressed suspicion that the incident was a deliberate attempt to harass him, writing, “They tryna get me……..”
As we can see, there is still a lot of work to be done, especially in criminal justice reform. For now, it appears Meek and the other men were not physically harmed.
However, we can be sure that Meek is not taking the situation lightly.
