Kyrie Irving Suffers More Consequences. According to TMZ, the 30-year-old faces some serious consequences.
As previously reported, Irving found himself suspended without pay for sharing an anti-Semitic film and book on social media.
Initially, he refused to apologize because he saw nothing wrong with his actions. However, most people felt like he needed to take accountability for sharing the content.
Specifically, the National Basketball Association—and the commissioner Adam Silver. Apparently, Nike felt just as strongly about the media frenzy that came along with the situation.
Thus, the multi-million dollar company suspended its partnership with the former Cavalier. As a result, there’s been a halt placed on the upcoming release of Irvings’ Kyrie 8 shoe. Here’s a word from Nike:
“At Nike, we believe there is no place for hate speech and we condemn any form of antisemitism.”
Apart from that, the Brooklyn Nets also aren’t letting up on him. Not only did they suspend him—now they’ve concocted a laundry list of “Kyrie-Dos” they require before he returns to the court.
Specifically, the team requests that he:
”Satisfies a series of objective remedial measures that address the harmful impact of his conduct.”
Ultimately, the list includes a meeting with commissioner Adam Silver, Nets owner Joe Tsai, as well as local Jewish leaders.
Also, Irving must issue a public apology stating his understanding of how harmful it was to share the content. Not to mention, he’ll need to complete sensitivity training.
All while donating $500,000 to anti-hate causes—and undergoing training to understand anti-Semitism.
Of course, this comes as no surprise. Many think the league is simply trying to make an example out of the father of one.
So far, the Nets are 2-0 without him. And he remains silent about the aforementioned demands.
