However, Jay-Z would not take the test.
Jay-Z Wins A Great Victory In Court
Jay-Z Wins Paternity Suit Against Alleged Son.
In a significant legal victory for hip-hop mogul Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, a federal judge ruled in his favor. California has definitively dismissed a long-running paternity lawsuit brought by Rymir Satterthwaite.
The ruling, handed down in November 2025, marks the end of a decade-long legal battle. This paternity suit has been very controversial.
In addition, Rymir’s alleged godmother, Attorney Lillie Coley, is allegedly required to pay Jay-Z’s legal fees. She now has to pay a total of $119, 235. 45, as reported by Black Enterprise.
In other words, Jay-Z allegedly asked the judge to penalize attorney Lillie Coley.
The Final Ruling
U.S. District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice, meaning the case cannot be refiled in the future. The motion to dismiss was granted.
After the court concluded the matter was suitable for a decision without oral argument. This ruling effectively closes the door on legal claims that have persisted since the early 2010s.
The judge also denied a restraining order sought by Satterthwaite’s legal guardian, Lillie Coley. In which cleared the way for Jay-Z’s team to potentially pursue penalties.
Those penalties were described as a “decades-long campaign of harassment.”
Background Of The Dispute
The claims originated from Rymir’s late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite. Wanda, who alleged she had an on-and-off relationship with the rapper in the early 1990s.
-
Initial Filing: Wanda first sought child support in New Jersey in 2010.
-
Jurisdiction Issues: The original case was dismissed in 2012 because it was filed in the wrong state.
-
Persistence: Rymir Satterthwaite, now in his early 30s, continued the pursuit after his mother’s death in 2019, claiming he sought “the truth” rather than financial gain.
Jay-Z’s legal team consistently denied the allegations, noting that the claims had been reviewed and refuted by multiple courts over the years.
Despite the dismissal, Jay-Z reportedly declined to pursue attorney fees against Rymir. However, he was awarded a judgment against his attorney.
As of now, the case is officially closed in December 2025, allowing the matter to finally rest.
