A$ap Rocky Refuses Plea Deal He Is Heading To Trial.
As Black Enterprise reported, Rakim Mayers decided not to take the plea deal offered by Los Angeles prosecutors. Instead, A$ap Rocky will go to trial this month.
The process of selecting the jury started on January 21, 2025. If he is convicted, A$ap could spend 24 years in prison. Last year, A$ap pleaded not guilty to firing a weapon at a former A$ap group member (A$ap Relli).
His former friend claimed it was A$ap Rocky who pointed a gun at him. Also, A$ap Relli claims the gun was fired twice, but he was not hit.
This alleged incident occurred on November 6, 2021, on the corner of Selma Avenue. Superior Court Judge Mark Arnold warned prospective jurors not to look at A$ap’s celebrity.
Decision To Face Assault Trial
Despite being offered a plea deal of three years probation and a seven-year suspended prison sentence, Vibe/Yahoo stated that he has already served 180 days in jail.
A$ap Rocky shared,
“I respectfully decline, thank you.” His attorney, Joe Tacopina, explained the firearm wasn’t a real weapon but a “starter pistol.”
Prosecutors say they only learned about this information before the trial. The prosecutors thought A$ap was wielding a 9mm handgun.
Attorney Joe Tacopina plans to provide witnesses who will testify the gun was a starter pistol. Therefore, the security video did show a real gun but a face gun.
So, A$ap Rocky has boldly decided to fight the charges against him in court. He has maintained his innocence throughout the ordeal.
And now, he is determined to prove that he was not the aggressor in the altercation that led to his arrest.
Whether he will be acquitted or found guilty of assault, one thing is sure – Rocky’s legal saga has captured the attention of many.
