Highlights Of The NAACP Image Awards. This year’s host was Queen Latifah. And, she did an awesome job of hosting.

The Stars Came Out To Celebrate Black Excellence

Highlights Of The NAACP Image Awards. Benjamin Crump gave the most riveting speech. Attorney Crump accepted the Social Justice Impact Award Saturday night., as reported by BET.

His speech spoke to the hearts of the audience. And, his work speaks for itself. If there was ever a champion for our cause, it’s Crump. Of course, his tireless efforts against social injustice are admirable.

However, there were other big winners. This prestigious award recognizes the arts, entertainment, and culture of African Americans. And, during the 54th NAACP Image awards fans were not disappointed.

In the category of “Entertainer of the Year”, there were Angela Bassett, Mary J Blige, Quinta Brunson, Viola Davis, and Zendaya. Needless to say, Angela Bassett won.

An unexpected winner emerged in the “Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture” category. It was non-other than Will Smith. He won for his portrayal in “Emancipation.”


Will was not at the award show this year. Other highlights included Viola Davis winning for “Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture.”

Viola gave a phenomenal performance in “The Woman King.” Here are the remaining categories and winners:

  • Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture (Tenoch Huerta – “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture (Viola Davis) – “The Woman King.”
  • Outstanding Comedy Series “Abbott Elementary.”
  • Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series (Cedric The Entertainer) – “The Neighborhood.”
  • Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series (Quinta Brunson) – “Abbott Elementary.”
  • Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Tyler James Williams )- “Abbott Elementary.”
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Janelle James) – “Abbott Elementary.”
  • Outstanding Drama Series “P-Valley.”
  • Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series (Nicco Annan) – “P-Valley.”
  • Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series (Angela Bassett) – “9-1-1.”
  • Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Cliff”Method Man” Smith )- “Power Book ll: Ghost.”
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Loretta Divine) – “P-Valley.”
  • Outstanding Television Movie, limited-Series or Dramatic Special “The Best Man: The Final Chapters.
  • Outstanding Actor in a Television Movie, limited-Series or Dramatic Special (Morris Chestnut) “The Best Man: The Final Chapters.”
  • Outstanding Actress in a Television Movie, limited-Series or Dramatic Special (Nia Long) –“The Best Man: The Final Chapters.”

Did I forget to mention, Serena Williams won the Jackie Robinson award. To top it off, Dwayne and Gabrielle Wade were the recipient of the “Presidents Award.”

So, there you have it. It was an amazing night.
