Jay-Z’s Casino Bid In New York Denied. The iconic hip-hop artist and entrepreneur made headlines recently with his bold move to bid for a casino in New York. With a successful music career and numerous business ventures under his belt, many were intrigued to see how this new endeavor would pan out for the multi-talented mogul.

A proposal from Jay-Z was provided for a new Casino in New York. This Casino was going to be in Times Square. And, it would have a great deal for the music mogul.
Many were surprised that Jay-Z could move into the Casino Industry. Apparently, there was too much opposition and competition for the bid.
According to 4 New York News, the state-commissioned community advisory committee rejected the $5.4 billion plan. After the vote, Marc Holliday, CEO of SL Green, torched the decision.
Reverend Al Sharpton was upset by the decision, and he shared this: “We will remember that in the community.” It’s interesting that the building already houses the Minskoff Theatre.
If Jay-Z had been successful, other celebrities, such as Alicia Keys, would have likely been partners.
Especially since Jay included Rev. Al Sharpton and Charlamagne the God in the mega proposal.
But now that his bid has fallen through, it’s back to the drawing board. We can’t see Jay-Z giving up so easily.
Disappointment As Bid Gets Denied
Unfortunately for Jay-Z, his casino bid in New York was ultimately denied by the state’s gaming commission. While the exact reasons for the rejection were not disclosed, it was a disappointing blow.
According to Vanity Fair, there would have been thousands of jobs for those in the city. Desiree Perez, the CEO of Jay’s company, Rock Nation, mentioned the company poured “hundreds of millions” into the project.
And, other partners like Holliday’s company, SL Green, and Caesar’s Entertainment spent millions. Everyone involved was ready to promote the project with all hands on deck.
It was challenging to secure the three licenses for the Casino in New York’s premier district. So we can see, some lawmakers and municipal bureaucrats did not agree with the project.
Therefore, the idea to create a Casino in Times Square was scratched. Or at least, Jay-Z owning a Casino in Times Square was not feasible.
As Jay-Z moves forward from the setback of his denied casino bid, many are left wondering what’s next. Although this was quite a blow for Jay-Z, he will surely bounce back.
Whether it’s in the world of music, fashion, or beyond, Jay-Z’s legacy as a pioneering businessman lives on.
