Meek clearly believes in the clemency process in New Jersey. According to ABC News 6, the ceremony occurred at the St. James AME Church in Newark. Governor Murphy signed Executive Order 362 into action.
Executive Order 362 creates a new clemency board that expedites pardons. At the same time, EO362 commutes sentences in the State of New Jersey.
During the ceremony Gov. Murphy said,
“Today in our nation there are generations of families that have been torn apart by a broken criminal justice system that, for too long, has prioritized excessive punishment over healing and rehab,”
Those who will benefit from this executive order include people who committed crimes before 25. In addition, victims of sexual violence who committed crimes against their perpetrators will be helped.
