Fat Shoe Laces

Fat Shoe Laces. At the height of the eighties and nineties, fat laces were a major fashion statement. Let’s a take a walk down memory lane.

Fat Lace Fashion

Fat Shoe Laces. Once upon a time, fat shoelaces had the culture in a chokehold.

Of course, history always repeats itself.

Primarily, this bold fashion trend made its way throughout the boroughs of New York.

So, everyone from rappers to the most popular drug dealers were sporting these thick shoe strings.

Allegedly, the fad took off as people started manipulating the strings by stretching them, then ironing them with starch.

Undoubtedly, this rigged way of doing things proved to be a fashion favorite.

Not to mention, some folks even used ribbon to pull off this look.

History Repeating Itself

The most popular sneaker brands you might see these gigantic laces worn with were Adidas and Puma.

Speaking of Adidas, the legendary Queens trio Run-DMC gets lots of credit for popularizing the shoe.

Which may or may not even have shoestrings in them.

Well, in the early 2000s fat laces briefly resurfaced.

More than likely, your favorite rappers’ favorite rapper had a pair or two.

Additionally, Big Sean did a Puma collab and reintroduced a new generation to the fat shoelace vibes.

So, do you think these oversized laces will make a comeback anytime soon?
