African American Coach Mike Tomlin Sets NFL Record!!!
The Pittsburgh Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin has avoided losing for 15 straight seasons. Tomlin is on his way to a spot in the NFL Hall of Fame. Also, the Steelers won their game Sunday against The Cleveland Browns 26-14. This win may have clinched a spot for them in the playoffs. Tomlin’s career record of 153-85-2 ranks 20th all-time. In addition, Tomlin’s team has won a Superbowl.
Coach Tomlin Is The Epitomy Of Excellence
The Virginia native has surpassed coach Tony Dungy’s record. Who incidentally was his mentor. In fact, Dungy gave Tomlin his first job in 2001, as reported by The Shadow League. Coach Dungy spoke very highly of Tomlin during an interview in 2020, “He was 29 years old when I interviewed him. It took me 15 minutes to figure out this young man had something special… “I’m really not sure why he doesn’t get much credit”

Having said that, Tomlin was named the 16th head coach in Pittsburgh Steelers history on January 22, 2007. Tomlin was only 34 – years – old at the time, as reported by Steelers. Additionally, Tomlin ranks as the team’s longest-tenured coach. It was the youngest coach to win the Superbowl with his victory of 27-23 win over the Arizona Cardinals. I can remember watching the game, it was spectacular. Especially, to see an African American man head up one of the NFL’s greatest teams.
In his 14 years, Tomlin has taken the Steelers to seven AFC North titles. The Pittsburgh Steelers have made nine appearances in the playoffs. And, two trips to the Superbowl. Of course, the Steelers won Superbowl XLlll. Tomlin has been very successful in his NFL career. So, it is an honor that he is the first African American man to have 15 seasons undefeated.
As we near the Superbowl playoffs, the question remains, will the Steelers make a repeat to the Superbowl? After Sunday’s game, the Steeler’s have won a spot in the playoffs. Hopefully, the Steelers can win another Superbowl. That is if my favorite team (The Philadelphia Eagles) loses.
