Lisa Leslie Speaks On Brittney Griner’s Detainment. It is very disturbing to hear Leslie was told: “not to make a fuss.”
Not only…but also, someone suggested that she should not talk about Brittney’s detainment, as reported by Complex. During an interview on the I Am Athlete podcast, Leslie did talk about Griner’s situation in Russia.
Also, Leslie mentioned this,
“So, to make it like it’s not that important, or don’t make it like ‘Free Brittney’ and we start this campaign, and then it becomes they could use,” she continued. “That’s what we were ‘told’ and I don’t want to say who said that, but it’s what’s been spreading throughout the women’s basketball world.”
Leslie also went on to say,
“It’s heartbreaking for all of us. That’s the feelings of it. You want to do more, and think, should we all use our social media platform and get behind it or not? Nobody really [knows]. This is the first time we’re in this situation, and we don’t know what to do.”
With that being said, how can Griner’s friends, family, and others rally the support she needs to come home. Unfortunately, Griner’s detainment has not gone viral.
But because Lisa Leslie is speaking out about Brittney this may all change.
Will Griner Be Able To Leave Russia Or Not?
Is it possible that Griner is in this position because she is a “same gender loving female” and a black woman?
Some sources seem to think if people make a fuss over her detainment things may get worst for her, as reported by The Nation.
In addition, Griner is facing considerable time in a Russian prison? Especially since Griner was arrested and allegedly accused of having cannabis oil in her luggage.
It was back in February this year Griner was detained. And, she was charged with possession. Although details are still sketchy her fellow athletes are concerned for her.
Rightfully so, Russia has very strict laws. She could be facing 10 years in prison if convicted. To make matters worst, Russia is not in good standing with our government.
Griner’s detainment could become problematic for her release. primarily because Russia is at war with Ukraine. Of course, President Biden is dead smack in the middle.
Along with other countries that are opposed to Russian President Putin’s fight to take over Ukraine. For this reason, Leslie is determined to rally support for Griner’s release.
Hopefully, Griner will be able to come back to the U.S. sometime soon.
