Jalen Hurts Receives Philadelphia’s Citizen Of The Year Award.
Six ABC News reported that Philadelphia saluted the Super Bowl 59 MVP champion, among 10 other recipients, at an award gala.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro commended Jalen and his fiancee’ Bry Burrows. Both Bry and Jalen have used their celebrity to support Philadelphia schools, as stated by The Inquirer.
Governor Shapiro presented the award to Jalen with the prestigious honor. And he shared this with the audience,
“This guy is a champion on the field, but we are recognizing him tonight … because he gives a damn about us, and he recognizes his role as a citizen here in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.”
At the same time, Jalen and Bry were recognized for their all-female management team. In addition, Governor Shapiro said,
“use their celebrity in this community to do more than just deliver a Super Bowl championship for us. They understand that kids can’t learn when they’re sweating, so they installed thousands of air conditioners in our Philadelphia public schools. They understand that we need to ensure more girls play sports and have everything they need, from their equipment to the sports bras they donated.”
From his early days playing high school football in Texas, Jalen has always stood out as a leader. Then, when he continued with his leadership as a standout college career at the University of Oklahoma,

“As I sit here in this room, I see a common theme,” Hurts said. “I’ve received a ton of awards. God’s blessed me with so much in my life. This award holds a special significance for me, knowing everything that we have in common in this room. Everyone has a certain level of drive, a certain level of passion, a will about what they do. I think that’s a quality that oozes throughout the city of Philadelphia — tough and gritty people that don’t take ‘no’ for an answer.
“I don’t know if I’d be here without a lot of individuals like yourselves in this room today throughout my development and transition to manhood.”
It’s just like Jalen, to put the spotlight on others. This is reflective of Jalen both on and off the field.
Whether leading his team to victory on game day or volunteering Jalen continues to support local charities. His “Jalen Hurts Foundation” launched last summer, however, he was working in the community to promote change.
