Orville Richard Burrell has been a beacon of light in Jamaica’s darkest hours. According to TMZ, when they caught up with Shaggy, he was planning a relief concert for Jamaica.
The concert is scheduled for next month. As with all storms, the devastation can be catastrophic.
After Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica, the island suffered power outages and mudslides. As a result of the hurricane’s direct hit, many people are still without electricity and water.
Now, Shaggy is stepping up his efforts to assist his fellow Jamicians. His foundation has given generously; however, that is not enough.
He has been raising funds and awareness to support the country’s recovery efforts. Many of Jamaica’s popular tourist spots were hit, and no revenue is coming in.
As we are all aware, Jamaica depends on tourists spending time and money on the island. But the hurricane has stopped many tourists from visiting.

It was just announced that Shaggy is partnering with SiriusXM and iHeart to give a relief concert. They are calling the concert “Jamaica Strong.”
Some of Jamaica’s prominent artists will be performing, such as Sean Paul. In addition, Ke, Ky-Mani Marley, Chronic Law, and T.O.K. will perform.
Also, Inner Circle and Tessanne Chin are set to take the stage during the concert. To top it off, Akon and Aidonia will be performing with Shaggy.
Tickets should be on sale soon, since the concert is scheduled for December 12th. Fans in New York will be able to attend the concert held in their city.
Hurricane Aftermath Devastates Jamaica
The hurricanes that swept through Jamaica left a trail of destruction in their wake. As we mentioned earlier, Hurricane Melissa caused widespread damage to homes and infrastructure.
According to Fox5 News, thousands of families were displaced. And entire communities were left without access to necessities such as food, water, and shelter.
For this reason, the recovery process has been slow and challenging for many. One of the hardest hit areas was Saint Elizabeth Parish.
Sadly, the news has not continued to give updates on the relief efforts. Thankfully, Shaggy has a platform and is using it to keep assistance flowing to the island.
As the country continues to grapple with the long-term effects of the storms, there is a growing sense of urgency. With the support of individuals like Shaggy, Jamaica will be able to rebuild.
