Tyla Unleases ‘Bliss’ as her First Single and Visual of the Year

South African sensation Tyla has unveiled her latest single, “Bliss,” accompanied by a visually arresting music video that continues to showcase her evolution as a global pop force. Released on May 9, 2025, “Bliss” marks Tyla’s first solo single since her acclaimed debut album, Tyla, and it encapsulates her signature blend of amapiano-infused pop with a fresh, cinematic edge.

Tyla Releases ‘Bliss’ To The Delight of Her Many Fans

“Bliss” is a “slinky, physical pop anthem” that reflects Tyla’s established musical identity. The track features off-kilter, amapiano-influenced drums that sharply contrast with her “pillowy” vocal delivery. This juxtaposition led the publication to compare the sound to that of Aaliyah, highlighting the song’s atmospheric and textural sophistication.

The track was produced by Nolan Lambroza, Dylan Wiggins, and the Grammy-winning duo Nova Wav. Songwriting contributions include Tyla herself. Additionally, Hailey Alexander, Mirtha Michelle Castro Marmol, and others get writing credits, per Wikipedia.

Director X Delivers With This Sultry, Powerful Visual

The music video for “Bliss,” directed by the renowned Director X, presents a surreal desert landscape where Tyla performs amidst explosive visuals and striking imagery. The video captures her center stage, fronting a desert backdrop. As Tyla switches from one sultry look to another, she hangs from a rope in the sky, flexes her dance moves, and performs the track, before turning around to watch the explosion that had been happening behind her.

This visual narrative aligns with Tyla’s intent to explore new artistic directions. In a March 2025 interview with Billboard, she stated –

“I’ve changed a lot in a short amount of time because I was kind of forced to—with how fast I had to adapt to everything. I don’t think it’s going to be the same energy [as Tyla] at all, especially with what I’ve started making. It’s different, but also still Tyla.”

Charting the Course: Reception and Upcoming Performances

“Bliss” has made a notable impact on international charts, peaking at number 14 on the US Hot R&B Songs chart, number 11 on Japan’s Hot Overseas chart, and number 18 on New Zealand’s Hot Singles chart.

Tyla first teased “Bliss” during her Coachella 2025 performance, where she also debuted her rendition of “Show Me Love” alongside South African rapper WizTheMc. She is slated to perform at the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City from June 6 to 8 and at the Bonnaroo Festival from June 12 to 15. Additionally, Tyla will host Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards on June 21.
