Mary J Blige Started Her Las Vegas Residency
Mary J Blige Started Her Las Vegas Residency. The New York-born singer and hip-hop queen is a force to be reckoned with. Fans have forever loved Mary, especially since she has always been very candid about her life’s struggles and triumphs. So, this Las Vegas residency is the icing on the cake for her devoted fans.
Mary’s Story Is One Of Rags To Riches
Mary J. Blige’s rise to stardom began with a simple recording at a local mall in New York. In 1988, she recorded a cover of Anita Baker’s “Caught Up in the Rapture” in a karaoke-style booth. Her mother’s boyfriend later played the tape for Jeff Redd, an artist on the Uptown Records roster, who eventually passed it to the label’s founder, Andre Harrell.
After an impromptu audition for Harrell, she was signed as the label’s first female artist. Blige spent her early years at the label working as a backup singer for other artists before collaborating with a young producer named Sean “Diddy” Combs. Together, they crafted her 1992 debut album, What’s the 411?, which revolutionized music by blending gritty hip-hop beats with traditional soul vocals.
