In a show of unity, James Todd Smith withdraws from his scheduled performance. The New York rapper was one of the performers at the Wawa Welcome America event. The Wawa Welcome America concert series ends today.
Additionally, the schedule for the 4th of July included LL Cool J and Jazmine Sullivan. However, in support of Philadelphia’s Local Union 33, he will not.
According to 6 ABC News, the legendary rapper allegedly dropped out due to the ongoing AFSCME District Council 33 workers’ strike.

He claims he will not cross the picket line. At the same time, LL Cool J does not want to disappoint his Philadelphia fans. But LL Cool J did not want to perform unless the strike was settled.
As of today, July 4, 2025, the strike remains unsettled. Although LL Cool J is hoping the city will settle its dispute with the union workers, his decision stands.
Rapper Shows Solidarity With Local Philly Laborers
Lil Cool J’s decision to stand with local laborers in Philadelphia has not gone unnoticed. His actions have resonated with many, inspiring other celebrities to take a stand.
So far, it has only been LL Cool J who took a stand with the union workers. However, it does not mean other Philly celebrities will not follow suit.
In the meantime, Philadelphia singer Jazmin Sullivan is still scheduled to perform. Having said this, Mayor Cherelle Parker claims she spoke with LL Cool J. She understood his stand with the union workers.
