Suge Knight Civil Case Ends In Mistrial

Suge Knight has had his day in civil court for the wrongful death of Terry Carter, ending in a mistrial. With a deadlocked jury siding 7-5 in favor of the Carter Family.

Suge Knight Mistrial In Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Suge Knight’s civil case against him has ended, and it’s a mistrial.

Back in 2015, Marion Hugh “Suge” Knight, Jr. faced a legal battle for the wrongful death of Terry Carter.

Incidentally, Carter was Knight’s friend and co-founder of Heavyweight Records.

On January 29th of that year, Knight crashed his car into two men, killing Carter.

The former record producer is being sued by the victim’s wife, Lillian, and his daughters Crystal and Nekaya.

And they were seeking upwards of $81 million dollars.

While the jury was leaning on the side o Carter’s wife, they were deadlocked at 7-5.

However, a civil suit needs nine juror votes to have a successful judgment.

It Took Less Than Half An Hour To Reach The Deadlock

It didn’t even take a half-hour for the jury to conclude that a mistrial should be declared.

According to the jury foreman, it was a passionate exchange in the jury room –

“It was intense. It was so intense, someone walked by the jury room and thought a real fight had broken out. There was yelling.”

No doubt a new trial is being sought by the Carter family during the follow-up hearing next month.

While they didn’t come home with a win this time, his daughter Crystal stated that it was good to know that the majority of jurors sided with them, stating –

“It’s unfortunate, but the jury worked very hard. It feels good to know we were the majority, We look forward to trying the case again to get victory for my dad. To get justice.”

Already, the former Death Row co-founder (which is now owned by Snoop Dogg) and CEO is behind bars serving a 28-year sentence for the crime.

While he was originally charged with murder, he took a plea in 2018 to a lesser charge of manslaughter.

The 28 years comes to 22 years for running over the victim, and another 6 years because it was Knight’s third strike.

As of December 2018, Knight is incarcerated in San Diego at RJ Donovan Correctional Facility.

He is not eligible for parole until October 2034.
