Although Wiz Khalifa was released after the incident, things don’t look good. Romanian laws are strict, and Wiz Khalifa is facing an uphill battle.

Initially, Wiz Khalifa was fined for the incident. However, the Constanta Court of Appeal overruled the lower court’s decision.

Incident And Legal Timeline

• The July 2024 Offense: While headlining the “Beach, Please!” Festival in Costinești, Khalifa was spotted smoking a large, hand-rolled joint on stage.

• Following his set, he was detained by authorities who found him in possession of over 18 grams of cannabis.

• Initial Ruling: In April 2025, a lower court initially issued a criminal fine of approximately $830 (3,600 lei).

• The Final Sentence: Romanian prosecutors appealed the initial fine, arguing it was too lenient for an international figure.

• On December 18, 2025, the Constanța Court of Appeal overturned the fine and imposed a nine-month jail sentence.

• Calling his actions “ostentatious” and a “normalization of illegal conduct” for young fans.

Current Legal Status

• Final Ruling: The appellate court’s decision is considered final and enforceable under Romanian law.

• Likelihood of Prison Time: Because Khalifa is a U.S. citizen and was sentenced in absentia, legal experts suggest he is unlikely to serve time.

• Unless he returns to Romania or if authorities successfully pursue an international arrest warrant and extradition, a move considered rare for personal-use drug charges.

• Khalifa’s Response: After his initial arrest in 2024, Khalifa posted on X (formerly Twitter).

He stated that he did not intend any disrespect toward the country and promised to return “without a big ass joint next time.”
