One of the suspects in the case, Rashad Murphy, may be asking for an ‘insanity plea.’ As the legal battle unfolds, questions linger about whether justice will be served for Julio Foolio and his grieving loved ones.

Charles Jones, known for his music and presence in the hip-hop scene, was fatally wounded on June 23, 2024. According to NBC News, Julio Foolio was shot in a parking lot in a Tampa hotel.
It was said that three of the suspects were in two separate vehicles. They allegedly followed Julio Foolio to the hotel. There were three shots allegedly fired, killing Julio Foolio and wounding three others.
Rashad Murphy, Sean Gathright, and Davion Murphy were identified as suspects. All of the suspects were allegedly involved in the “6Block” gang.
These gangs were rivals of two other gangs, “ATK” and “1200.”Police say the gangs have been feuding for over a decade with a dozen murders.
Julio Foolio’s attorney, Lewis Fusco, claims the rapper was ambushed at the Holiday Inn. This occurred after Julio Foolio was asked to leave his 26th birthday celebration.
A possible video posted on Instagram caused the incident at Holiday Inn. Incidentally, the deadly assault was captured on surveillance video.
As a result, Isaiah Chance, Alicia Andrews, and Sean Gathright were arrested in Jacksonville in July.
Seeking Justice: Insanity Plea For Suspect
Fast forward, Rashad Murphy is now seeking an ‘insanity plea’ to avoid the death penalty. Yahoo reports that his attorney filed the motion on November 19, 2024.
The Hillsborough County court is requesting that a confidential forensic neuropsychologist be appointed. Attorney Daniel Hernandez wrote,”
“extensive” clinical interview, along with psychological and neuropsychological testing, is required.
“An NGI case such as this, should be treated just like a death penalty case,” Hernandez wrote. “The State will seek highly qualified clinicians to prove their side and will compensate them accordingly. The Defense should be treated in the same fashion.”
Appointing a forensic psychologist costs at least $300 per hour. A judge has not ruled whether Rashad can enter the plea.
In the meantime, Rashad and the other alleged murderers are being held behind bars. Having said this, Julio Foolio’s family is waiting for justice.
