Hurricane G Dead, Reportedly Suffered From Advanced Lung Cancer

Brooklyn rapper Hurricane G has died.

It was confirmed by EPMD’s Erick Sermon, the father of her daughter.

The Puerto Rican MC –  real name Gloria Rodriguez – is best known for her 1997 hit single, Somebody Else.

The hit single charted at #10 in Billboard magazine on Hot Rap Singles.

In addition to this hit song, she was also known for her bilingual cuts, Underground Lockdown, and El Barrio.

Taking to social media, Sermon posted a tribute to the rapper –

“My heart is hardened today. One of my good friends…. my oldest daughters mother passed away today #HURRICANEGLORIA was also a legend in her own right in the Hiphop community.”

“One of the first puertorican female rappers She rapped with me. @redmangilla she paved the way @keithmurray @diddy she was in all the Hiphop magazines with all the top females at the time.”

After hitting the scene in 1992 when she appeared on Redman’s “Tonight’s da Night” Rodriguez teamed up with him a second time a couple of years later.

That effort was the song We Run N.Y., from his Dare Iz a Darkside album.

In ’97 she put out her debut full-length Spanglish album, All Woman.

She has appeared in several artists’ works, such as Xzibit, Funkdoobiest, Keith Murray, and Puff Daddy.

Hurricane G is the first female member to join the East Coast hip-hop crew the Def Squad.

The last project she released was a collaboration in 2013 with Thirstin Howl III, Mami & Papi.

Though no cause of death has been confirmed, her daughter, Lexus posted on Facebook earlier this year that her mom was suffering from advanced lung cancer.

She posted on May 20th of this year –

“My mom has stage 4 lung cancer. I dont know how many of you understand what that means but even after 30 years of life Im still trying to process it myself. I have never cried so much in my life I have never felt so disconnected from reality in my life. Yet my mom still manages to be the one to hold it together and say “dont worry baby everythings gonna be alright”. S–t im crying right now but today is a blessing.”

Gloria “Hurricane G” Rodriguez was just 52 years old.

Condolences go out to her family, fans, and all that knew her.
