G. Dep’s murder sentence has been commuted, marking a significant moment in the artist’s long-standing legal battle.

The rapper, who had been incarcerated since 2010, admitted to shooting John Henkel during a robbery in 1993.

This confession was shocking; Coleman turned himself in to the police.

According to CBS 42, Coleman admitted the 20-year-old murder haunted him.

Therefore, he decided to answer for his part in the fatal death of Henkel.

Many years later, Coleman has been given a chance to get out of prison.

New York’s Democratic governor, Kathy Hochul, has granted amnesty to Coleman, as stated by BET.

Also, the governor has given amnesty to 15 others, including 12 pardons and four commutations.

The commutation of his sentence means that G. Dep’s punishment has been lessened.

This offers him a glimmer of hope for a second chance at freedom.

However, it is essential to note that his conviction for second-degree murder still stands.

Thus far, Coleman has served 13 years of his sentence and may be paroled soon.

Coleman had a promising career with Bad Boy Records, which Sean’Diddy’Combs ran.

Coleman collaborated with Black Rob on his album Life Story,’ (1999).

While the commutation reduces the severity of the sentence, it does not entirely absolve him of his crime.

Nonetheless, this development opens the door for further legal proceedings that may lead to his eventual release.
