22Gz Arrested At Airport, Facing An Attempted Murder Charge

22Gz is arrested at JFK airport.

The 24-year-old drill rapper (real name Jeffrey Mark Alexander) is from the Flatbush section of Brooklyn NY.

Several charges are levied on the artist –

  • second-degree attempted charges
  • second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • first-degree reckless endangerment

Credited as a pioneer of the Brooklyn drill scene in New York, he released his first major mixtape, The Blixky Tape in 2019.

And before that, one of his first releases was a collab with Kodak Black.

However, on Sunday morning (June 12th) he found himself in trouble with the law.

So What Went Down?

The charge of attempted murder stems from a March 6th shooting incident where three people were non-fatally shot.

In fact, he is allegedly the one that pulled the trigger.

After receiving a clear description of the rapper, he was later identified by one of the victims.

According to reports, the rapper was in Atlanta, where the shooting took place and was on his way to New York.

While he was due to perform at Hot 97’s Summer Jam concert festival at MetLife as part of DJ Drewski’s set, 22Gz never made it on stage.

That’s when he was nabbed by the authorities at JFK and held at Rikers Island.

Posting to social media, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said –

“This shooting not only wounded the victim but endangered the lives of everyone in a crowded club. Senseless gang rivalries fuel much of the gun violence in our communities and I remain committed to vigorously prosecuting anyone who engages in this criminal conduct.”

No stranger to trouble, Jeffrey Mark Alexander was arrested in 2017 for second-degree murder.

Though the charges were eventually dropped, the rapper spent 5 months in jail.

Bail was set at $500,000 and his next court date is July 19th.

So far, there are no comments coming out of 22Gz’s camp.
