Xzibit Claims Viacom Owes Him Money
Xzibit Claims Viacom Owes Him Money. The legendary actor and rapper are seeking royalties. They have allegedly made money off his likeness.
Will Xzibit Receive Royalties From Viacom Or Not?
Xzibit Claims Viacom Owes Him Money. This famous reality show was aired back in 2004. It went off the air in 2007. We watched as people got their cars refurbished. It was one of the best shows on TV.
Contestants’ cars were transformed from a jalopy to a classic. Rapper Nathaniel “Xzibit” Joiner was popular back in the day. He had a hit album ” At the Speed of Life.”
From that point on he moved on to do TV shows. One of my favorite roles for Xzibit was Shine. He really embodied that character in the “Empire” series. I digress. There appears to be an issue with Joiner and Viacom. He is claiming he was never paid for making Pimp My Ride a hit, as reported by Afrotech. Here is what he shared,
“While I’m at it, hey @viacom_intl why is it you’ve made millions off the show #PimpMyRide I carried on my back and found ways to cut me out?” he wrote via Instagram. “Like saying I would get percentages of all merch sold let alone streaming(which wasn’t even in the contract) and putting in the fine print ‘with my name and likeness’ then proceed to take my ‘name and likeness’ off of ALL the merchandise including dvd sales after season 1? To top that you guys went back and EDITED all of my music out of ALL entire seasons in order to avoid paying me for my publishing.”
So, there you have it. However, will he ever recover any royalties? Furthermore, is he willing to take Viacom to court? As you can see, Joiner is contemplating suing them.
But fighting a huge company like Viacom can be very costly. Joiner may want to let this one go. Especially since it has been such a long time. Having said this, what do you think the outcome will be?
Be that as it may, Joiner sounds like he would settle for some royalties. After all, he was the reason the show was a huge hit. At least, that is what I believe. Of course, we only have bits and pieces of this issue.
Hopefully, Joiner will resolve this matter with Viacom.
