Legendary R&B Singer Peabo Bryson Has Died. Peabo Bryson was one of the greatest voices in the ’70s, ’80s, and beyond. His voice was the blueprint for singers in the 70’s. And, Peabo continued to warm his way into the next generation. One of my most memorable songs by Peabo was “Feel The Fire,” which he sang with the iconic singer Stephanie Mills. Then there was “Stop The Rain”, “I’m So Into You”, and “Reaching For The Sky.” There will never be another like the great Peabo Byrson.

R&B Legend Peabo Bryson Passes Away at 75

The music world is mourning the loss of one of its smoothest and most defining voices. Two-time Grammy Award-winning R&B singer and songwriter has died. The premier balladeer, Peabo Bryson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the age of 75.

According to a statement released by his family, Bryson transitioned surrounded by loved ones in Georgia, days after suffering a stroke.

“With broken hearts and profound sadness, the family of two-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and balladeer, Peabo Bryson, announces his passing,” the family shared. “For more than five decades, Peabo’s extraordinary voice served as the soundtrack to some of life’s most cherished moments.”

A Voice That Defined Generations

Born Robert Peapo Bryson in Greenville, South Carolina, he began his legendary career at just 14. He started singing backup for local bands. By the late 1970s, he broke out as a solo artist and quickly established himself as a dominant force in R&B and soul music. As we mentioned earlier, he delivered hits like “Feel the Fire,” “I’m So Into You,” and “Can You Stop the Rain.”

Bryson became widely recognized as the ultimate duet partner. Famously pairing with Roberta Flack in 1983 for the timeless romance anthem “Tonight, I Celebrate My Love.”

To millions of fans worldwide, Bryson’s voice is forever woven into the magic of childhood and cinema. According to ABC News, in the 1990s, he spearheaded two of Disney’s biggest musical triumphs:

• “Beauty and the Beast” (1991): Recorded alongside Celine Dion, the track won an Academy Award for Best Original Song and earned Bryson his first Grammy.

• “A Whole New World” (1992): Performed with Regina Belle for Aladdin, the track topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart and earned him a second Grammy Award.

Following the news, Celine Dion expressed that she was “heartbroken” over the loss of her friend, remembering him as a symbol of the joy music brought to her life.

Musical Legacy

Over a career spanning five decades, Bryson released over 20 studio albums—including his 2018 project Stand for Love, produced by the legendary duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
