The career of alt-pop artist d4vd (David Burke) began as a practical solution to a modern problem. While living in Houston as a homeschooled teenager, he spent his time creating games. One of his claims was that he posted Fortnite gameplay montages on YouTube. After receiving multiple copyright strikes for the music in his videos, he produced his own tracks. That is when he was able to monetize his content.
Without a professional studio, he began recording vocals in his sister’s closet on his iPhone. At the time, he was using the mobile app BandLab. This DIY approach resulted in a unique blend of indie rock and lo-fi pop.
It began to resonate deeply on social media, starting with his breakout 2022 single, “Romantic Homicide.” This song, which became a viral sensation on TikTok.
Eventually, that propelled him from a gaming content creator to a major-label artist signed with Darkroom and Interscope Records.
However, all that D4vd has worked for could go up in smoke. Especially since he has now been arrested for the murder of Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

Current Legal Status
D4vd is currently being held without bail, as reported by People. His defense attorneys, including prominent lawyer Blair Berk, maintain his innocence, stating that the “actual evidence” will show he was not the cause of the girl’s death. Because of the “special circumstances” attached to the murder charge, the case could potentially qualify for the death penalty, though prosecutors have not yet announced if they will seek it.
Following the discovery of the body last year, D4VD was dropped by his record label, Interscope, and he canceled his remaining tour dates in North America and Europe.
