The theme of “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” was a nod to black fashion trends’ enchanting and mysterious qualities. As CBS stated, the Hollywood elite came out in New York City on Monday evening.
It was the annual event supporting the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Celebrities came out in their finest attire, based on the current theme, every year.
This year, the celebration was based on Black style and tailoring. The media mentioned many hit-or-miss outfits.
As we all know, this year’s chairs were Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams. Anna Wintour, Vogue’s editor-in-chief, led the charge.
Needless to say, all eyes are on the fashions that many of Hollywood’s elite presented. For instance, Diana Ross’s ‘The Boss’ came out for the first time in 20 years.
Dianna wore the best attire. Her stepping out on the red carpet in an all-white sequinned gown by Sixteen Eleven designer was breathtaking.
Dianna wore a long fur-laced boa train, which put her in a category all her own. That fur-trimmed hat was the icing on the cake.
We watch and compare who wears the best or worst attire each year. Well, this year, the men came out to win.
Colman Domingo wore two outfits, but the black-and-white suit won. The red carpet was filled with flowing capes, dramatic trains, and intricate lace detailing.
In this case, shades of white and black menswear attire were the theme, as stated by Vanity Fair. With the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” many admired the “Tailoring for You.”
In addition, CBS News stressed the history of “Dandyism.” Vanity Fair reports that the Met Gala is the most glamorous night of the year.

The Met Gala 2025 was a night of superlative tailoring. Designers are pushing the boundaries of traditional techniques to create innovative and timeless garments.
Stars such as Zendaya, Usher, Rihanna, Dua Lipa, and Lewis Hamilton represented classic looks. As Cosmopolitan stated, singer and actress Teyana Taylor was in a costume designed by Ruth E. Carter.
As for actress Lupita Nyong’o wore a Chanel light blue suit with a chiffon cape and boater hat. It appeared she was going for an appealing yet masculine feminine look.
Then there was Pharrell Williams, a co-chair wearing a Pharrell x Vuitton white jacket and black bell-bottom suit. I’m not sure if I was feeling the fashion icon’s look.
Although the pearls were a nice touch to Pharrell’s jacket, the look was not. Halle Berry wore a beautiful black flowing gown by Laquan Smith.
That neckline on Halle’s gown was a showstopper. Unfortunately, rapper A$AP Rocky’s fashion choice by AWGE was a miss for me. Some would disagree with me, saying A$AP wore fitting attire that celebrated the theme.
Having said this about A$AP, his lady Rihanna had the best news ever. Rihanna never disappoints. She wore a t-shirt and black attire, sporting her baby bump.
Yes, you heard me. Rihanna and A$AP are allegedly expecting their third child. Of course, some fashions shone, such as Zoe Saldana in Thom Browne’s fashions.
Zoe was gorgeous in the white and black gown, which had a bit of a menswear look yet was modern. Her short bob choice was exquisite and eye-catching, accentuating her entire look.
By the way, the bow in the back of Zoe’s gown complemented her figure. The red carpet was delightful, with sleek tuxedos, unexpected twists, and voluminous ball gowns with intricate pleating.
Some of the best outfits showcased the finest craftsmanship in the fashion world.
This Year’s Theme: Dandyism And Black Style
Black Dandyism focuses on tailoring black style and explores its history and significance. Here is a better definition,
“particularly in the realm of menswear, and how Black individuals have used clothing as a form of self-exession, cultural resistance, and identity formation.”
Many fashions were also inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.”
Monica closely collaborated with Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute curator in charge. We must remember that the Met Gala raises funds for the Museum, which raises millions for the current exhibits.
The 2024 Met Gala raised $24 million; this year’s event should top that amount. Did I forget that Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl champion quarterback Jalen Hurts and his new wife were in attendance?
Need I say more? For me, Jalen stole the show with his black suit, and his wife wore a beautiful burgundy laced gown. Both Jalen and Bryonna’s attire fit the theme well.
Overall, the Met Gala’s looks were on point. Sadly, the other co-chair, NBA champion LeBron James, could not attend due to a knee injury.
In case you forgot, fashion icon Andre Leon Talley was the go-to for DaDandyism. I must admit, the Met Gala is one of my favorite fashion shows. Perhaps we get to live vicariously through our favorite celebrities.
