DL Hughley Speaks Out Against Saquon Barkley’s Silence
DL Hughley Criticizes Saquon Barkley On White House Visit.
Saquon Barkley is part of the Super Bowl champion Eagles for not using his platform to speak out on Black issues.
According to TMZ, comedian DL Hughley targeted Black athletes attending the White House. DL is known for his sharp wit and poignant commentary.
So, we are not surprised that he had something to say about the White House visit. He claims that Saquon appears “indifferent” to our community’s issues.
In his commentary, DL often addresses issues within the black community. In other words, DL has used his platform to discuss racism, economic inequalities, and other problems.
During his interview with TMZ on Tuesday, April 29, DL spoke out against President Trump. By now, we are familiar with some of the policies being implemented by President Trump.
It appears that Trump is trying to erase the mark of prominent figures in black history. Trump has begun to dismantle programs that were designed to help minorities in employment.
Case in point, federal agencies such as the Civil Rights Division. Those civil rights programs were established to level the playing field for minorities.
However, Trump’s new policies are problematic, to put it mildly. I digress.
Why Did DL Hughley Blast Saquon And Not Jalen?
How did DL Hughley become an authority in the media related to black life? And, why did DL choose to criticize Saquon Barkley?
He did not mention that quarterback Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown were not at the White House ceremony to celebrate the Eagles’ win.
It has become a tradition for Super Bowl Champions to visit the White House. So, why go after Saquon, but never mention Jalen or A.J.?
Here’s the thing: while DL has a significant point, his stand against Saqoun is different. Why blast Saquon in public instead of pulling him aside and saying those things to him?
What happened to the tradition of elders teaching young people? Perhaps Saqoun did not consider how blacks would perceive his visit.
Especially since some of the other prominent black players did not attend, don’t we have more pressing issues to address?
The issues within the Black community are more complex. Indeed, we can spend our time on something other than focusing on who did or did not visit the White House.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand DL’s point. At the same time, I recognize that educating the young brother would have been a more effective approach.
The time has come for us to band together, not fall apart. Take a lesson from both great leaders, Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.
Both were prominent leaders in our community with different perspectives. Yet, and still, they managed to respect each other without belittling their differing social and political views.
What say you?
