Snoop Claims Jay-Z’s Super Bowl Shows Brings Hip-Hop Center Stage
Snoop Claims Jay-Z’s Super Bowl Shows Bring Hip-Hop Center Stage. The Super Bowl Halftime Show has always been a monumental moment in music and entertainment. It has featured some of the biggest names in pop, rock, and country music for years. However, hip-hop has been at the forefront since Jay-Z took over as the musical executive over the half-time show. This has been a historic undertaking for the music mogul, as we have seen several hip-hop legends perform. And this year will be no exception since rapper Kendrick Lamar is set to perform.
A Historic Moment For Hip-Hop
Snoop Claims Jay-Z’s Super Bowl Shows Bring Hip-Hop Center Stage.
Hip-hop has long been a force to be reckoned with in the music industry, but its presence at the Super Bowl Halftime Show has been scarce.
That all changed when Jay-Z, one of the most influential figures in hip-hop history, took over the half-time performances. Since then, football fans and the like have enjoyed performances by Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre.
In addition, rappers Eminem, 50 Cent, and singer Mary J. Blige have performed. The list goes on. However, this year’s selection, rapper Kendrick Lamar, was met with controversy.
As we all know, rapper Lil Wayne felt slighted because he was not asked to perform. After all, Lil Wayne is from New Orleans. This year’s Super Bowl will be held at the Ceasars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Lil Wayne has been vocal about not being chosen to perform at the Super Bowl. Legendary rapper Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre were guests during an appearance on Drink Champs.
According to Hollywood Unlocked, during the conversation with N.O.R.E., Snoop praised iconic rapper Jay-Z for creating opportunities for hip-hop artists.
Here is what Snoop shared,
“Before Jay-Z got control of the Super Bowl, wouldn’t no n***as performing.”
“Let’s go back to the essence of the beginning…he’s creating a wave of artists to have an opportunity to perform. If you’re a good artist and you’re a great artist, your time will come.”
Does Snoop have a legitimate point? Certainly, we did not see many performances by hip-hop artists before Jay-Z took the reins.
Jay-Z Creates Change With Super Bowl Half-Time Performances
Jay-Z is at the top of his game. He has made quite a mark in music and business. His success is incredible, as he rose from projects in NYC to being among the most celebrated rappers.
Things changed when Jay-Z’s RocNation took over the production of the Super Bowl halftime show. RocNation began implementing changes with Jay-Z at the head of an impressive team.
With Desiree Perez, Dionne Harmon, and others, the half-time show has become even more spectacular. If you remember, the NFL needed a makeover because of its lack of diversity.
His leadership has seen hip-hop become center stage where Pop music once led. So, we can see why Snoop makes these claims about Jay-Z opening doors for the hip-hop genre.
Snoop Stands Up For Hip-Hop
Snoop goes on to emphasize his point by stating the obvious. More importantly, other hip-hop artists should celebrate instead of complaining.
Also, Snoop shared,
“I was never crying about it or mad about it. When Dr. Dre called me and asked me to get his back, I was there for him,” he continued. “But I didn’t feel like I was supposed to be there or I was in demand to be there. This is a big event. People looking at everything when they pick the person to perform.”
Now, that is what we call real showmanship. What Snoop said should make other rappers think differently about the Super Bowl’s upcoming half-time show in 2025.
In other words, Kendrick Lamar gets to perform; next time, it could be another rising star. At any rate, the key is to celebrate hip-hop, not criticize Jay-Z’s choices.
