Illinois Prosecutors Drop Charges Against R Kelly. Cook County’s attorney Kim Foxx made the announcement. This decision was made on Monday. January 30, 2023. And, this is good news for Robert Kelly.
Kelly is already serving considerable prison time. In fact, his federal case in New York has him serving 30 years. According to CNN, Kelly was convicted in 2021 of federal racketeering and sex trafficking.
So, the Illinois prosecutor’s office dropped the charges by four women. At this time, there will no further charges in the matter. But what does this really mean for Kelly?
After all, he is still facing other charges in Illinois, as reported by CBS News. At the same time, Kelly is awaiting sentencing for allegedly sexually abusing a 14-year-old.
For this reason, Foxx said, “will no longer be pursuing these indictments.”
She went on to say,
“I understand how hard it was for these victims to come forward and tell their stories. I applaud their courage and have the utmost respect for everyone who came forward,”
Furthermore, “While this may not be the result they were expecting, due to the sentences that Mr. Kelly is facing, we do feel that justice has been served,” Foxx added.”
In other words, “Sometimes justice is served even when there is no conviction,” said Foxx. We have not heard any response from Kelly’s attorneys. Nor has there been any statement by the four women.
