Former NBA Star Jalen Rose Pays It, Forward
Jalen Rose Opened Tuition Free Charter HS. Education is the key, some would agree. Therefore, Rose is helping High School students. According to AfroTech, Rose has invested in a tuition-free charter HS.
This partnership with HS students provides more resources. The Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA) is serving over 400 students. Students from grades nine through twelve will be supported beyond high school.
In other words, Rose intends to provide academic resources during college. He is following a concept known as 9-16. This particular educational model gives cultural and academic support.
What it means is students will be nurtured throughout their academic careers. Our children really need this kind of support. Especially since a lot of inner-city schools have lost government funding.
Not to mention, there are educational disparities within minority communities. Rose admits in the beginning he faced a lot of challenges. That made funding difficult to secure.
But when people began to buy into the program things began to improve. For that reason, Rose became even more passionate about helping HS students.
As a result of his perseverance, he has secured partnerships and sponsors for the students. Furthermore, the students will have a greater chance of academic success.
It would be great if this academic model is presented in other inner cities. When I look at the current state of our education system it is alarming. That is why what Rose is doing can be very beneficial.
Needless to say, the U.S. needs a complete overhaul in educating our children. By the way, after Rose retired from the NBA he became a sports analyst.
