Kidd Creole Gets 16 Year Prison Sentence

Kidd Creole was sentenced to 16 years after fatally stabbing a homeless man. Allegedly, he became enraged when he thought a homeless man was gay and made a pass at him.

Kidd Creole Sentenced After First-Degree Murder Conviction

Rapper Kidd Creole was sentenced to 16 years in prison, convicted of killing a homeless man.

After being found guilty of first-degree manslaughter, Nathaniel “Kidd Creole” Glover learned his fate.

The 62-year-old was the founding member of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.

Back in 2017, John Jolly was murdered when fatally stabbed twice in the chest with a steak knife in Midtown New York City.

Admitted to a nearby hospital, the victim died shortly after being admitted.

According to testimony, prosecutors concluded that the Bronx native became enraged when he believed Jolly was gay and hitting on him.

At the time, John Jolly was 55 years old and a registered sex offender.

Further reports allege that Kidd Creole went to his workplace nearby, washed the knife, and changed his clothes.

It wasn’t until the following day that he was apprehended and held ever since at the Vernon C. Bain Correctional Center (right across from Rikers Island).

Speaking on the case, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said after the sentencing –

“Mr. Jolly’s death was devastating to his family and those who knew him. Every life we lose to violent crime ripples throughout our entire city, and we will continue to ensure everyone in our borough can live their lives with the sense of safety and security they deserve.”

So What Did Creole Have To Say About The Incident

As for his side of the story, Glover says he was shocked when he learned he was looked at as a homophobic rapper.

While he never disputed that the altercation happened, he says it was self-defense.

Before his trial, he spoke during a jailhouse phone interview.

“Now I’m fighting the image that they portrayed me as a person who’s intolerant of people with alternative lifestyles and that’s not true.“

“They basically portray me as the villain when I was the one just walking down the street minding my business,” states Glover. “I had no intention when I left my house that night to do anything harmful to anybody, for any reason.”

“Now I’m fighting the image that they portrayed me as a person who’s intolerant of people with alternative lifestyles and that’s not true,”

Incidentally, surveillance video supports the rapper’s account of what went down.

Additionally, it was later learned that after being admitted to the hospital, Jolly was acting erratically and was given sedatives.

Later his heart stopped and he expired.

However, in spite of all those things, a jury still found Kidd Creole to be guilty of a crime.
