Suge Knight’s Former Lawyer Matthew Fletcher Can No Longer Practice Law
Suge Knight’s former lawyer, Matthew Fletcher can no longer practice law.
This after pleading guilty in his own case of conspiracy and perjury charges.
Marion “Suge” Knight is the founder of Death Row Records.
Back in 2016, the record mogul faced murder charges.
Those charges stemmed from Suge hitting 2 men with his truck.
Though he claimed self-defense, no one bought it.
Just over a year later, Matthew Fletcher, his lawyer at the time, found himself in trouble with the law.
Almost 4 years ago, he was accused of attempting to bribe potential witnesses during the murder trial of Suge Knight.
Fast forward to today, and Perry has pled no contest to 1 charge of conspiracy to obstruct justice and 1 count of perjury.
While he avoided jail time by doing so, Matthew Fletcher is barred from practicing law.
Additionally, he is on probation for the next 5 years.
So How Did Matthew Fletcher Get Caught?
Prosecutors listened in on jailhouse conversations over the phone between Suge Knight and Matthew Fletcher.
Among the accusations, Fletcher had allegedly –
- attempted to pay witnesses to testify that there were guns at the scene
- told Knight that it would cost him $20,000 to $25,000 to secure his freedom
- conspired to pay the man who survived
After hearing several phone calls, the following charges were filed against Matthew Fletcher –
- one count of conspiracy to commit bribery
- conspiracy to commit subornation of perjury
- conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice
- accessory after the fact
Alexandra Kazarian, Matthew Fletcher’s attorney, accused the judge in the case of, “…gunning to send him to prison for the maximum sentence.”
He also called the trial a “travesty of justice, stating to Billboard –
“The forces that be combined to target him and take him out of rotation…This was an orchestrated hit, and he definitely went down fighting. It’s not the result I was hoping for, but it was the smartest move he could’ve made.”
Suge Knight is currently serving a 28-year prison term since sentencing in 2018 when he struck Terry Carter with his truck.
Carter died from his injuries.
According to reports, that incident happened in the parking lot of a Compton restaurant in 2015.
Incidentally, Death Row Records is now owned by Snoop Dogg, Suge Knight’s rival and former colleague.
