Today In Hip Hop History – Fugees Drop Blunted on Reality
Fugees Come Onto the Hip Hop Scene
The Fugees released their debut album Blunted on Reality. Funny story, a lot of the tracks, particularly Nappy Heads, was A LOT DIFFERENT than the album edit. When a buddy of mine bought the album, the first cut he played was Nappy Heads. Straight trash. Pras was ALWAYS trash on the mic. Straight dumpster juice.
Who were the Fugees?
Formerly Tranzlator Crew was an American hip hop group who rose to fame in the early-1990s. The Fugees sound included elements of hip hop, soul and Caribbean music, particularly reggae. The members of the group were rapper/singer/producer Wyclef Jean, rapper/singer/producer Lauryn Hill, and rapper/producer Pras Michel. Deriving their name from the term refugee, Jean and Michel are Haitian immigrants, while Lauryn “L-Boogie” Hill is American.
