LeBron James’ I Promise School Offers Permanent Housing. James, I Promise School has been making headlines since its opening in 2018. The school offers at-risk students outstanding academic support, mentorship, and other resources. The  Akron, Ohio, school made another bold move: it announced that it would provide permanent housing to some of its most vulnerable families. Here’s what you need to know about this groundbreaking initiative.

The I Promise School has partnered with East Akron Neighborhood Development Corp to provide affordable housing.

According to Afrotech, a 50-unit building on Maple Street includes two-three and four-bedroom apartments.

This new partnership with James is state-of-the-art housing with Wi-Fi, community, and fitness rooms.

In addition, the housing units are tailored to assist people with mobility issues.

James endeavors to “positively affect the lives of children and young adults through education and co-curricular educational initiatives.” 

James is keeping his promise to help those who have been at a disadvantage, as stated by Black Enterprise.

The Vice Chair of East ANDC spoke at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the project.

Dan DeVille told the audience that “Young people who have a quality place to live are better students and become better citizens in our community,” 

Families who qualify for this housing can apply online.

So far, seventeen families have been approved to live in the housing complex.

I Promise School will also provide support services for the families and students.

Those services include medical, mental, educational, career advancement, and financial literacy.

This initiative is part of the I Promise School’s broader mission to provide holistic support to its students and families.

LeBron James, who founded the school with his foundation, has stated that he wants to help break the cycle of poverty.

And provide opportunities for kids who might not have them otherwise.

By providing stable housing, the school hopes to remove one of the barriers that can prevent kids from succeeding academically and socially.
