From shimmering sequins to bold colors and avant-garde silhouettes, the Met Gala was a feast for the eyes in 2024. Each year, the Met Gala is held at the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute.
According to Vogue, Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, and Jennifer Lopez hosted this year’s extravaganza. Zendaya wore two different looks for the Gala.
Each year, a different theme is chosen; ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, “The Garden of Time” got the nod.
J. G. Ballard’s story about a count who stopped an angry mob nearing his castle was chosen. The count cuts a rose in the story to slow down the crowd.
With this in mind, designers created fashions to showcase. So, we saw an array of ensembles to promote the theme. Anna Wintour, Vogue’s editor-in-chief, oversees the Met Gala.
It’s a night of fundraising for the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute. Let’s examine the fashion do’s and don’ts.
Doja Cat chose to wear a wet t-shirt, which did not go with the theme. But if she was looking to make a statement, that she did.
Did Zendaya Steal The Show?
Next, one of the co-hosts, Zendaya, wore vintage Givenchy gowns. Zendaya’s choices fit the theme; however, the black dress was a show-stopper.
Bad Bunny wore Maison Margiela, a great look. Jennifer Lopez wore a beautiful Schiaparelli gown. Cardi B chose a flowing black gown by Windows, another show-stopper.
Chris Hemsworth was dapper in a 3-piece tan suit with shiny black shoes, not a show stopper. Actress Keke Palmer’s Marc Jacobs gown was simply beautiful.
As you already know, actress/singer Teyana Taylor’s gown by The Blonds was red and velvety. I thought it was a good look for the talented actress.
Kerry Washington chose a stunning Oscar de la Renta purple gown. Rapper Nicki Minaj was on point with the theme of flowers.
She wore a short yellow dress adorned with pink, blue, purple, and orange flowers. I don’t want to be judgmental, but Kim Kardashian’s dress was okay.
Why did she put that sweater with it? Also, Erika Badu’s ensemble was a bit different. Serena Williams, Lizzo, and Angel Reese’s outfits left much to be desired.
Again, it’s just my opinion; for all I know, they were all the rave. My girl Taraji P. Hensen’s gown was lovely.
Demi Moore’s gown was more on point than most. Chris Jenner and Corey Gamble matched in their white ensembles.
Celebrities Steal the Show with Trendsetting Looks at Met Gala
The men’s fashions at the Met Gala stood out this year. Actor Jeff Goldblum was one of the best-dressed men, although he wore no flowers. Perhaps he was going for the count’s look in the theme.
And Usher was undoubtedly thinking like Jeff because he wore a black suit with a matching hat and red roses. Jon Batiste got the memo and wore a black suit and flower vest.
Colman Domingo was debonaire with the white and black suit topped with a black flowered hat. Jaden Smith’s white with black trim suit was stylish.
People report curator Andrew Bolton as saying, “We saw some muddy florals on the carpet.” That was a very accurate assessment. There were too many who understood the assignment.
Some celebrities then displayed their unique styles. Overall, this year’s Met Gala was fascinating. Unfortunately, Rihanna and ASAP Rocky did not attend.
