Dababy and Roddy Ricch are in the hit song Rockstar, which was released in 2020. Now they are facing a lawsuit by a Flordia producer.

Dababy and Roddy Ricch Facing Lawsuit Over Hit Song ‘Rockstar’

30-year-old rapper Dababy and Roddy Ricch are facing accusations of copyright infringement.

24-year-old rapper/singer/songwriter Roddy Ricch hopped on Dababy’s single Rockstar in 2020.

The song is a huge hit for the duo, which you can peep below.

However, they now have a problem.

Florida producer Craig Mims (AKA JuJu Beatz) alleges that Dababy took the beat from his song Selena in his hit song, Rockstar.

All without his knowledge.

Not only is he claiming he was not compensated for the song using his beat, but he also claims that efforts to reach out to Dababy to settle the dispute has gone nowhere.

Beatz says the rapper will not “cooperate or accept responsibility for blatant and willful copyright infringement.”

The lawsuit states –

“…plaintiff provided his musical composition known as ‘Selena’ to defendants in 2019, who then used ‘Selena’ to create a sound recording entitled ‘Rockstar.’ The Defendants accessed plaintiff’s ‘Selena’ on more than 40 occasions in late 2019 and early 2020”.

Unfortunately, this is not a rare occurrence in the music industry, according to Mim’s lawyer.

This is what he stated to Rolling Stone earlier this week –

“It is unfortunate that these types of situations occur almost daily within the music industry; the unequal balance of power and money in the industry is sometimes used to silence the real individuals who truly deserve a piece of the action and money.”

“It is too easy for the labels and mainstream artists and producers to cut out the ones who really matter the most, it is disheartening because there is enough money in the industry to change everyone’s lives, but the money usually ends up in the hands of the few.”

Juju is now seeking to be made whole by being awarded $150,000 in statutory damages per infringement.
