Goonew Shot And Killed, Found Suffering By Police In Maryland
Maryland rapper Goonew is dead after suffering from a gunshot wound.
Although his identity was not known at first, the up-and-coming rapper (real name Markelle Morrow) of Washington D.C. was killed on March 18th.
And it happened in the 3400 block of Walters Lane in District Heights, Maryland on Friday afternoon.
According to the Prince George’s County Police Department, no suspect is in custody.
First breaking the news on Twitter, the PGCPD made a statement on their blog that read –
“Homicide Unit detectives are working to identify and arrest the suspect(s) who fatally shot a man Friday in the unincorporated section of District Heights.”
“…a reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.”
According to reports, his manager confirms to The Washington Post the identity of the deceased as being the rapper, Goonew.
Before the rapper was identified, he was described as ‘an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound.’
This Is Not The First Time The Rapper Has Been Shot
Back in 2019, Goonew spent some time hospitalized and that too was due to a gunshot wound.
In that incident, the rapper shared how the doctors told his mother he was dead.
Additionally, he dropped a photo of himself in his hospital bed.
However, this time he succumbed to his injuries, and hours later he was in fact pronounced dead.
Of course, condolences are pouring in now from the Hip Hop community, including posts from DMV MCs Cordae and IDK.
Known for his low tones that have a time-bending quality, the rapper has been plenty busy the last few years on several projects, including –
- Certified Goon in 2017
- Beware of Goon in 2017
- Goonwick in 2018
- Big 64 in 2018
- Goonrich Urkel in 2018
- Still Servin in 2019
- Goonwick 2 in 2019
- Back From Hell in 2019
- Big 64 2 in 2020
- Short Temper in 2021
Though he put out multiple projects every year since he hit the scene in 2017, he still was not done.
Just released in February of this year, his latest single titled Back Inna Mix appears on Big 64 Entertainment.
Not only is the rapper described as a rapper that helped to popularize time smearing flows that felt innovative and influential.
But The Washington Post also commented on his 2019 release of ‘Back From Hell‘ writing –
“…on the eerie, curtain-raising title track of his outstanding 2019 album “Back From Hell“, he rapped with composure and dash, declaring that he had already “died twice.”
Goonew’s contribution to Hip Hop will be known for years to come.
And he was just 24 years old.
RIP.
