ESPN Fires Shannon Sharpe Following SA Settlement

ESPN Fires Shannon Sharpe Following SA Settlement. One of football’s most celebrated retired players is leaving the ESPN sports network. While ESPN has not gone into details about their decision to part ways with Shannon, it may be because of his settlement for $50 million in a South African civil lawsuit. As we all know, Shannon settled a sexual assault case filed by a woman, ” Jane Doe, ” at the time.”

According to USA Today, Shannon allegedly asked ESPN to delay firing him. In April, while Shannon was working on “First Take,” allegations against him were made public.

The Hall of Famer was accused of sexually assaulting a woman formerly dated. Gabriella Zuniga was allegedly identified as the woman who was suing Shannon.

She accused Shannon of rape and sexual battery, as stated by Yahoo. This civil lawsuit against Shannon was resolved after both parties agreed they had a long-term relationship.

However, when Gabriella first filed the lawsuit in April, Shannon vehemently denied it. Shannon’s attorney, Lanny Davis, claimed it was a shake-down.

But obviously, there was some truth to the allegations. Otherwise, Shannon would not have settled for such a considerable amount.

Having said this, many believe Shannon was forced to leave ESPN due to the lawsuit. Be that as it may, Shannon claims, he is “at peace” with the network’s decision.

After Sexual Harassment Settlement: Shannon Parts Ways With ESPN

As we mentioned earlier, ESPN has not come out and admit that Shannon was fired due to the lawsuit. However, you don’t have to be a genius to make the connection.

Folks are wondering if Shannon will quit his podcast “Shay Shay.” Or will he continue to move forward with his show with Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, “Nightcap,” or not?

Things seem to be up in the air for the once-celebrated NFL great. Meanwhile, Shannon broke his silence by saying,

“Obviously, I’m sure everybody’s heard the news by now that I will not be returning to ESPN. I found out this information a little earlier in the week,” he explained.

He added, “I really enjoyed my time at ESPN. It gave me an opportunity to bring my audience that saw me, really just grow. They saw me [saying,] ‘Lakers in 5.’ They saw me saying all these funny things and analogies that my grandparents gave me. And I was able to bring that to ESPN. So, I’m very, very grateful for that.”

It sounds as though Shannon has accepted his departure from ESPN. Hopefully, Shannon will be able to learn from this life-changing experience.
