Clinton Portis Accused of Defrauding the NFL
Accused of stealing money from the league’s healthcare program, the Justice Department accuses at least 12 NFL players of scheming, including Clinton Portis. Under investigation for scheming, this all happened in 2017, with the Gene Upshaw NFL Player Plan.
According to TMZ Sports, some of the players involved as well as Portis are Joe Horn, Reche Caldwell, Robert McCune, John Eubanks, Tamarick Vanover, Ceandris Brown, James Butler, Fredrick Bennett, and Etric Pruitt.
Expected charges against them include conspiracy to commit health care fraud. Allegedly, the former players made up fake claims and submitted them and got money back, which is a crime. Though four of the players have already been arrested, others agreed to turn themselves in.
Facing fines that could exceed $250,000 and many years in jail, this is a very serious matter and the investigation is ongoing.
