The new song by Caesar will accompany Marley’s latest EP, which will be out on February 14.

The movie ‘Bob Marley: One Love’ is scheduled to be in theatres on the same date (Feb.14). In case you don’t know, Bob Marley was one of Reggae’s greatest entertainers.

Ashton Simmonds, better known as Daniel Caesar, is a Canadian singer-songwriter. Caesar was raised listening to gospel music in his church. So, his sound is a unique blend of R&B and gospel.

He attended high school in Jamaica, where his influence in music expanded. Also, Caesar is of Bajan and Jamaican descent, as stated by Wiki.

Now, you can see some of the connections with Bob Marley. There is probably no other artist from Jamaica who has such an influence on music.

That brings us to the present day, where Daniel Caesar has taken on the task of creating Marley’s song. Caesar sang and produced ‘Waiting In Vain,’ as stated by Complex.

Here is what Caesar shared with Forbes,

his own, delivering a fresh, passionate iteration of the song in his signature soulful style. When speaking with the Recording Academy last year about his process, he confessed that his approach to music-making varies depending on the day.

“I’ll go into a song thinking something and then, a lot of times, what I’m thinking is reflected in the song. Other times, I do the song just vibing and then I’m like, ‘Oh s**t, I didn’t even know that I thought that.’ I found it after,” he said. As for the idea of looking to the past, he mused to Hypebeast, “Nostalgia is one of the great human weaknesses but it’s something I deeply enjoy.”

Bob Marley’s Music Continues To Inspire A New Generation

Bob Marley put Jamaica on the map with his iconic Reggae sound. Born Robert Nesta Marley, he was a songwriter, guitarist, and singer, as stated in his Biography.

He spent his early years in St. Ann Parish, Jamaica. His parents were married but separated when Marley was very young—in the late 1950s, Marley lived in Trench Town.

Trench Town was one of the poorest neighborhoods in Jamaica. Living in severe poverty is what doubt shaped Marley’s music and activism.

One of Marley’s first singles, ‘Judge Not,’ was released in 1962. Some of Marley’s time was spent in the United States, where his music was influenced by singers Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, and Fats Domino.

Also, Marley was fond of the legendary group the Drifters. As time passed, Marley and his friends formed the groupThe Wailing Wailers.’

His group consisted of Livingston, MacIntosh, Junior Braithwaite, Beverly Kelso, and Cherry Smith. They became trendy in Jamaica.

However, financially, they had a lot of difficulty making money. Eventually, Braithwaite, Kelso, and Smith left the group.

The remaining members drifted apart, as well. Marley returned to the US with his mother. During this time, Marley began to explore his spirituality.

His spiritual journey caused him to explore the Rastafarian movement. This change in his spirituality greatly influenced his style of music.

That is why Bob Marley’s music took on such a powerful political sound. Ultimately, Marley’s group ‘The Wailer’ became a worldwide sensation.

Touring all over the world, Marley’s group inspired many young musicians. His song catalog included hits such as ‘No Woman, No Cry, ‘War,’ and ‘Exodus.’

More importantly, Marley’s songs from his album ‘Exodus,’ ‘Jamming,’ and ‘Waiting In Vain’ made him a household name everywhere.

Sadly, Marley died in Miami on May 11, 1981. However, his music has resonated for many years. Now, a new generation is recreating his iconic songs.
